Sir Elton John thinks Jesus is gay, according to his recent interview with Parade magazine. In the article set to hit news stands tomorrow, John says:

"I think Jesus was a compassionate, super-intelligent gay man who understood human problems," John, 62, tells the magazine. "On the cross, he forgave the people who crucified him. Jesus wanted us to be loving and forgiving."

His comment has stirred disagreement and comments of blasphemy from Christians who's religious belief is that Jesus was without sin and definitely homosexual. John has been with boyfriend David Furnish for 16 years, five in a civil partnership. John was married to a woman for four years before he and his wife divorced in 1988, and he subsequently came out as a gay man.

Sticky-sticky situation when it comes to sexuality and religion, but we still admire Sir Elton John as a celebrity gay pioneer
